Jose Guevara Hernandez
Data Project Associate
Jose Guevara Hernandez is a Data Project Associate for the Crime Lab and Education Lab. In this role, he contributes to data and statistical analysis for a portfolio of social policy research on education and criminal justice.
Jose’s work also includes offering technical and analytical expertise to many Chicago-based government agencies, violence intervention organizations, and key Public Affairs stakeholders.
Prior to joining the labs, Jose conducted research on health and human rights in the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as research on migration in Latin America. Jose holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with majors in Economics and Political Science, and a minor in Data Science.
2025 End-of-Year Analysis: Chicago Crime Trends
Violent crime declined substantially in 2025 across the country, including in our home city of Chicago – which experienced 168 fewer homicides through mid-December 2025 compared to the same period last year.
