Economic Club of Chicago- Public Safety: A Call to Action for Business
As crime has taken its toll locally it’s also defined Chicago’s reputation nationally and globally. Meanwhile — until now — there has been no coordinated response from the business community to address the issue. This event covered what businesses of all sizes can do to help lower violent crime in the city. It starts with money, jobs, and neighborhood investment.
This Economic Club program was hosted in partnership with the Commercial Club of Chicago. The event included a conversation with Mark Hoplamazian, Co-Chair of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago’s Public Safety Task Force; CEO of Hyatt Hotels, Eric Smith, Co-Chair of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago’s Public Safety Task Force; Vice Chair of BMO Harris Bank, Arne Duncan, founder of community violence intervention leader Chicago CRED, and Garien Gatewood, Deputy Mayor of Community Safety. The discussion was moderated by Roseanna Ander, Executive Director of the University of Chicago Crime Lab.
