Turning the Tide
Turning the Tide is a place-based youth violence prevention and leadership initiative focused on high-traffic public spaces such as the Oceanfront in Newport News, VA. The program deploys trained Community Anchors—trusted adults with lived experience—to build relationships, de-escalate conflicts, and engage youth during peak activity periods. Through leadership cohorts, mentorship, and pathways to employment and education, the initiative seeks to reduce youth-related incidents, strengthen trust with non-enforcement adults, and create long-term opportunities for young people.
