Guns Down Friday Mobile Trauma Unite
The Guns Down Friday mobile trauma unit is a community-based initiative that aims to address the intersections of chronic absenteeism and youth violence in Washington, DC. Serving at-risk youth aged 17 and under in Wards 5-8, the mobile unit delivers telehealth mental health care, academic tutoring, and mentorship directly to neighborhoods most impacted by trauma. In partnership with the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH), the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office), and the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), and local stakeholders, the program provides early intervention that fosters emotional wellness, improves school engagement, and builds trusted relationships – ultimately working to reduce violence by tackling its root causes.
